Circus

150cmx150cm, acrylic and pencil on canvas, 2011

A circus structure reveals to me when I try to associate canvas with constructing material. It has been a childhood fantasy for most of the people, but there are always labor, commercial profit and sacrifice underneath. This contradiction is similar to the disparate social values of canvas for painting and building.
I build a wooden structure and cover the circular canvas on it to be a circus, painting the shape and indicate the position for exit and window. However, the constructing, which constitutes to entire image, remain to be an unseen process.
